I'm a Slow Learner

I'm a slow learner when it comes to following Jesus. I am the disciples, seeing God's awesome power and glory displayed before my very eyes one minute and the next I've forgotten all about who He is.

Recently I've seen the Spirit of God alive in the people around me. Seeing Jesus at work in other people's lives is extremely exciting and neat to watch. There is nothing quite like seeing Jesus transform a sinner to look like Himself. Watching Jesus do this in many lives around me is like the disciples watching Jesus heal the leper, calm the sea, and raise the dead. I am watching God do a miracle in the lives around me. He is transforming them from one degree of glory to another every single day, and they behold His face and I don't think there is anything more exciting than seeing God make someone who was dead in their sins, alive unto righteousness.

You would think that seeing God's transforming power so up close would remind me of who God is. You would think that I would praise Him for who He is and what He is doing, right? Well, apparently I'm no different than the disciples and the nation of Israel, seeing the the glory of God right before my eyes and totally missing it. God told the nation of Israel to remember the great things that He had done for a reason; He knew they would forget. Jesus said things over and over and over to the disciples because He knew they wouldn't get it the first time. We almost never get it the first time; we always forget.

I'm slow to see what God is doing, slow to praise Him, slow to encourage others, and slow to remember who God is, even when He is laying it out right before my own eyes. But even though I am a stubborn, stupid, slow sinner, God is still patient with me. He is still patiently waiting, reminding me of who is, willing me to remember His steadfast love.

Thank you Lord for not giving up on me!
